If you have run out of things to watch on Netflix, here is something to get you excited again. Netflix has just now dropped the first trailer of its dystopian drama “Leila,” starring Huma Qureshi in the main lead along with Siddharth, Rahul Khanna, Seema Biswas, Akash Khurana, Sanjay Suri, and Arif Zakaria.
Leila, based on a novel of the same name by Prayaag Akbar, is set in a futuristic world where totalitarianism and notions of racial purity reign supreme. The trailer shows a world gone digitally advanced but socially backward by many leaps with a communal leader (Arif Zakaria) who is in the process of identifying, recording and segregating the ‘pure’ from the ‘impure.’
Huma’s character is leading a happy life when one fine day, she is kidnapped and taken to some sort of suspicious-looking totalitarian figure’s purification ashram. She runs away and tries to relocate her family, especially her toddler daughter, whom she fears that the people in power have taken away somewhere because she is ‘mixed blood.’
Well, Leila trailer is shocking, spine-chilling and is nothing like what we expected it to be. It does not give much away about the plot except that Huma’s character is a fighter and is not ready to give up easily. Isn’t it good to see her after such a long time and that too, making her digital debut with such a meaty role? Watch the trailer right here.
This Netflix‘s upcoming thriller is directed by renowned Deepa Mehta and co-directed by Shanker Raman (Peepli Live and Mukkabaaz) and Pawan Kumar (writer and director of the 2013 Kannada romantic psychological thriller film, Lucia).
No wonder, Leila trailer is already creating ripples on social media.
Many of you are calling the #Leila trailer as nightmarish & dystopian.
But this is the stuff that our wet dreams are made of.
We will make #Aryavarta happen soon 💪💪💪🔥🔥🔥
