Having a nice lush garden seems to be a universal dream. Sadly, modern day small crampy houses and their more crampy balconies often make the idea of a nice green balcony garden a distant dream.
However, no matter how small your balcony is, there is always a possibility of a garden. So instead of brooding over what all you could have done if you had a bigger home, let’s take up the challenge and create a masterpiece of balcony garden.
We, at Ourtitbits, have earlier introduced some must-have indoor plants. Continuing our green wagon, let’s have a close look at various ways in which we can transform our tiny balcony by creating an amazing and inspiring balcony garden:
- Hanging Garden:
There is no dearth of hanging baskets nowadays-be it at your neighborhood nursery or at the online marketplace. Hang a line of baskets with colorful flowers and you will find them to be like a toner to the eyes.
- Vertical Green Wall:
To save as much space in the balcony as possible, create a green wall. You can either do this by hanging pots in multiple rows on a wall or by covering the wall by a mix and match of vines.
- Climb Those Vines:
Speaking about vines, these amazing variety of plants should find space in your garden- either on the wall or on the railing. The best part about these plants that they are usually sturdy and grow very fast with minimal care. A good growth of vine can also create more privacy in your balcony by covering the railing from outside and creating a cozy space.
- Add Some Fragrance:
A scent is an important element of any garden. Try to add as many fragrant plants as possible to calm down your nerves after a hectic day. Lavender, gardenias honeysuckle and even mint can add life to your balcony garden.
- Dash Of Colors:
A dash of color is a must. Pick up the brush and paint and give your old, dull pots a makeover. Geometrical designs or polka dots- color as your whims and fancy and see the place transformed.
- Throw In Some artifacts:
An old looking earthen statue looks soothing and amazing when kept in a corner of balcony garden.
- Ladder garden:
Take out that worn-out wooden ladder, paint it up and voila! Here you have a new stand for keeping your pots so that they occupy minimum space on the ground.
- Green up Your Old cabinet:
Don’t throw that old glass cabinet too. Repaint it, place it in a corner and keep some pots of green. Trust us, it will look amazing.
- Kitchen garden:
While setting up balcony garden, why not add some kitchen ingredient? Cherry tomatoes, curry tree, baby carrots, lettuce, broccoli and other herbs can be grown easily in pots and hanging baskets. For more detailed info, read media personality (and foodie), Indira Naidoo’s book “The Edible Balcony.”
- Throw In Cozy Seating:
Last but not the least, place some nice cozy furniture as balcony garden will be of no use if you cannot turn off your brain, make yourself some good coffee and just sit there and enjoy this wonderful life for a while.
