Union Leader Trailer Review: Sanjay Patel Directorial Debut Brings Forth An Intriguing Story With Rahul Bhat, Tillotama Shome [Watch Trailer]

(Last Updated On: December 3, 2017)

Boy-meets-girl, falls in love, sing a few love verse, ‘dushman zamana’ comes in between, a few punches and a sad song later, things come to a happy end and they get married to live happily ever after- well, no more!

Finally, Indian cinema is shifting from decades-long typecast movies to some world-class unique stories. And the latest movie seemingly coming in this stride is Union Leader.

Platoon One Films has dropped Union Leader trailer on Dec. 2. The movie has already been screened and applauded in various international film festivals including the Kansas International Film Festival, USA, Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival, Hof International Film Festival, Germany, and has even won Best Film in The Best Of Fest Category honor in Colombia George International (Angaelica) Film Festival.

As the name suggests, the movie is expected to explore the lives and struggles of the workers with Jay (Rahul Bhat) as the story’s protagonist. “Union Leader” trailer takes us on a ride of an accidental leakage in a chemical factory and its fatal health effects on its workers.

Not just his tumultuous professional life, Jay is seen not having an easy time at home too with not-so-happy wife (Tillotama Shome) and clearly unhappy teenage son (Tirth Sharma). Tirth was last seen in “Secret Superstar” while Tillotama has been earning rave reviews for her work in “A Death In The Gunj,” “Hindi Medium” and very recently “Kadvi Hawa.”

The shots look realistic and so are the dialogues as well as the situations. Rahul’s demeanor as a seemingly ‘powerless’ union leader is something worth looking at as well as Tirth’s portrayal of a frustrated, angry and rebellious teenager.

This Indo-Canadian production further piques our interest since it is internationally acclaimed short film director Sanjay Patel’s first venture in feature films. His craft was highly appreciated in the award-winning short film “If You Love Your Children,” the film that had famously won 20 international awards including prestigious Flickerfest in Australia. The movie is produced by Dimlight Pictures.

Union Leader is set to hit cinemas on Jan. 19. Until then, watch the trailer right here:
