“Biwi se sex maang lein toh hum bikhaari,
Biwi ko sex na de toh hum atyachaari,
Aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke usse sex haasil kar lena toh balaatkari bhi hum hai.”
These lines are not from some third-grade novel but a part of yet another monologue of Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan. No wonder, the trailer of ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh,’ an irreverent take of modern age adultery, that dropped recently is being slammed by netizens for its sexist and misogynist dialogues.
The above-mentioned lines are spoken in the trailer by Chintu Tyagi, played by Kartik Aaryan, who is seen ranting in his now-very much stereotypical way to a friend (Aparshakti Khurana). (Quick question: Can you think of a name of a single movie in which Aryan has not given a breathless, angsty and pointless monologue?)
Although actress Bhumi Pednekar claimed recently that ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ is not a sexist film but Twitter is definitely not buying the claim.
The movie is a remake of 1978 film by the same name though it seems to have shades taken from Biwi No. 1 as well. Be it the much-talked about dialogue or the character of Kartik Aaryan on the whole, netizens have been shredding ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ mercilessly.
Just came here to say that I’m literally outraged by the #PatiPatniAurWohTrailer. Not only does the movie seem painfully awful but they also made a disgusting rape joke. Unacceptable!

With every movie this guy proves his lack of depth as an actor. No versatility at all.Exact Same kind of dialogue delivery, same expressions in movies, advertisement. He may get tons of movies but he really needs to work on his acting chops! #PatiPatniAurWohtrailer #KartikAaryan

The only difference between the characters Kartik Aryan plays is the name of the character. #PatiPatniAurWoh

Movies are being made on cheap, wife-hating, misogynistic WhatsApp forwards glorifying infidelity!
Kartik Aaryan needs to discontinue his chain of making movies where he just plays around with women thinking they’re dumb dumbs! Not cool man.

#PatiPatniAurWoh trailer is just so wrong.Ananya seems too young for the role. The jokes are crass & sexist.Women are being degraded as if it is perfectly normal.Nothing but stupid old Bollywood. They never learn.

This misogyny needs to end! A woman’s power to consent is not something to joke about and what makes it worse is that 20-something year olds are being part of such projects. #PatiPatniAurWoh #Hindifilmindustry #MaritalRape
