June 2020 has more in store for you in the form of these lesser-known yet brilliant Hindi movies and web-series

(Last Updated On: June 30, 2020)

The scare of corona continues. The opening of cinema halls still appears to be a distant dream. Though many states are in the Unlock 1.0 phase, they are still reluctant to reopen theaters. However, you don’t fret as there is no dearth of new Hindi movies and web series since the makers have now fully embraced the digital route to tell the stories.

But, with the sea of movies, shows and web-series hurled upon us, doesn’t it become rather daunting to choose what’s worth our time? But don’t you worry as we have done all the hard work and has listed down the crème de la crème, especially for you. Here are new and exciting Hindi movies and web series to watch in June 2020:

  1. Chintu Ka Birthday:

Where: ZEE5

When: Now Streaming

Chintu Ka Birthday is a heartwarming story of an Indian immigrant family in Baghdad and how it unfolds under the shadow of war. Starring the stellar cast of Vinay Pathak, Tillotama Shome and Seema Pahwa, the movie will take you on a journey of wonderment and innocence of childhood days. The central premise of Chintu Ka Birthday, written and directed by Satyanshu and Devanshu Singh, is simple enough, but the film manages to expand its scope and bring out the deleterious effects of war on a family stuck in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Solid performances from the cast, a tidy screenplay, and equally tight direction, the movie is a definite watch.

  1. Chaman Bahaar:

Where: Netflix

When: Streaming Now

After the success of Panchayat, Jitendra Kumar is back, this time as an average village youth who falls for a young girl who is clearly out of his social circle. Set in the backlands of UP, the movie touches upon the issue of eve teasing, idea of consent and safety of school-going girls in the remote towns.

Chaman Bahaar

Chaman Bahar starts off as a quirky, comical watch but it soon gives way to an uncomfortable track of unabashed male entitlement which is very much prevalent in our society.

  1. Aarya:

Where: Hotstar

When: Streaming Now

Aarya comes as a surprise as the series has Sushmita Sen in the main lead. And after watching the first few scenes of Aarya, you will be left wondering how much you have missed watching this Bengali beauty on the screen.

The series is about a rich, powerful, aristocratic yet complicated family of Rajasthan which dabbles in illegal drug trade. Aarya is pulled into the mainstream family affair when her husband, played by Chandrachur Singh, is murdered and that is when she takes the bull by horn, managing her troubled kids on the way.

  1. Bulbul:

Where: Netflix

When: Streaming Now

Well, Anushka Sharma has done it again! This actress has both money and power when it comes to making new content and she is surely putting both of them in good use. NH10 maker has once again touched upon the female rage in this classic mix of classic pre-Renaissance Bengal and desi horror gothic movie.

Bulbul stars Tripti Dimri, Rahul Bose, Paoli Dam, Ruchi Mahajan and Varun Paras Buddhadev. The movie revolves around Bulbul (Dimri), a free spirit who used to love climbing trees and plucking raw mangoes in her ‘maayka’, who is turned into an obedient wife to her much older husband Indranil (Bose). They live in a big haveli with his mentally challenged twin Mahendra (Bose again), Mahendra’s wife Binodini (Dam), and younger brother Satya.

  1. Rasbhari:

Where: Amazon Prime

When: Streaming Now

Rasbhari is part coming-of-age story of a boy who falls for his teacher (Bhasker) and part social drama about the witch hunt of the teacher’s supposed “sex-obsessed” alter ego: Rasbhari. Curiously, the web-series starring Swara Bhaskar is launched without any fanfare and all the episodes are already streaming on Prime.
