January 2018 has come up with a line of some promising offbeat movies on some completely unthinkable subjects. Be it a small-town boxer, or a union leader struggling to seek justice or a common man thriving to make sanitary pads for women, Bollywood has seemingly come of age.
To have a fun-filled as well as wholesome time, Ourtitbits has come up with the list of must-watch offbeat Hindi movies of January 2018:
- Mukkabaaz (Jan. 12):
This is an amazing story of a low caste boxer, played by Vineet Kumar Singh, who falls in love with the niece of a local don (Jimmy Shergill), who also happens to control the boxing scene of the area. Inspired by true life incidents, the story is written by Vineet himself who got trained in boxing for more than 700 days and endured almost 20 major injuries to emerge at par with a national level boxer to play the role. Given the fact that the movie is helmed by none other than Anurag Kashyap and also has Ravi Kisan as Vineet’s life coach, the movie is definitely a must-watch one.
- Kaalakandi (Jan. 12):
After being tossed around by CBFC for a long time, Saif Ali Khan’s “Kaalakandi” will finally see the light of the day on Jan. 12. Directed by “Delhi Belly” writer Akshat Verma, Kaalakaandi follows the unexpected turn of events of a whacky, fun-filled, crazy night. Definitely one of the interesting Hindi movies of must-watch offbeat Hindi movies of January 2018!
- Union Leader (Jan. 19):
This Dim Light Pictures’ product has already been screened and gathered applause in international film festivals including Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival, Hof International Film Festival, Germany, and Colombia George International (Angaelica) Film Festival. This offbeat promising movie follows an industrial accident and the chain of events that surround the life of a union leader. The movie’s lead cast Rahul Bhatt, Tillotama Shome of “A Death In The Gunj,” “Hindi Medium” and“Kadvi Hawa” fame as well as Tirth Sharma of “Secret Superstar” fame make the movie a must-watch in January. Definitely one of the most exciting Hindi movies of January 2018 to look out for!
- Aiyaary (Dec. 26):
The combination of Neeraj Pandey and Manoj Bajpayee along with the young blood in the form of Sidharth Malhotra alone is intriguing enough. This no-nonsense thriller follows the story of two Indian Army officers- a mentor and his protégé, as the two falls out and pit against each other. The presence of Naseeruddin Shah, Adil Hussain and Kumud Mishra makes the movie all the more worthy to look out for.
- Padman (Jan. 26):
This Akshay Kumar one is too offbeat and too strange to be true. The movie is based on the on the life, struggle and achievements of social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganatham who fought against the circumstances and societal pressure to come up with a low-cost sanitary pad.
