Now that Game of Thrones is finally over and so it’s hangover, here is something new to surprise and shock you at the same time.
HBO has released a new show Chernobyl on May 6 which is streaming on Hot Star in India. If you need to be convinced to watch the series, allow us to break the news that the show has quietly gained popularity and it is currently ranked as IMDb’s highest rated TV show in the history, even more than Game of Thrones.
And its not just IMDB but on Rotten Tomatoes too, Chernobyl has a rating of 96%.
Chernobyl is a dramatic retelling of the Chernobyl tragedy, the worst nuclear power plant accident in history which left a swath of Ukraine a radioactive no-go zone. The accident is said to be catastrophic as it released into the atmosphere 400 times more radiation than was emitted when American forces dropped the atom bomb on Hiroshima during World War II.
The HBO’s series tells the story of scientists, engineers, and first responders involved in the disaster and its aftermath.
The best part of the series which has come to light until now that it has captured the real life incidents that happened at the time as close as possible- a flawed reactor, Soviet style apparatchiks in control, a failed experiment, a clumsy cover-up and that too, without any forced background music or anything superfluous to heighten the tension.
As per numerous reviews on IMDB from the viewers across the world and some from the very part which the show refers to, HBO’s Chernobyl is authentic to the core.
“I was born in 1983 and I was 2 and a half years when the Chernobyl catastrophe happened,” commented a user. “I remember 1980s and I can tell that the authors of this film made a GREAT job to show every detail of what the world look for is in the times of Soviet Union. The telephones, the clothes, the haircuts, the cracked paint on the window sills, even the door glass is similar to what I remember.”
“Im Ukrainian, born in 1988 and still live here,” commented another IMDB user. “I want to give the authors of this show a big thumbs up for the whole set they have made. Every little detail of the buildings, flats, uniforms, clothes, cars, especially big thumbs up for ambulance “RAFiks” (RAF-2203), almost everything is 99% identical to the real things of the time.”
