Bollywood’s tryst with horror movies has come a long way. While the journey began successfully with some classic hits like “Kohra” and “Bees Saal Baad,” which are still full of creeps like ever, horror movies of 80s and 90s hampered the evolution. Purani haveli, Ramu Kaka, creaking doors, ugly-as-hell devils- the Bollywood horror movies became equivalent to a bad joke.
However, things changed drastically over last decade with Bhoot, 1920, Ragini MMS, Ek Thhi Dayan and lately, Tumbbad, that made us jump out of our seats once again. Die-Fi, the upcoming mystery-horror, is expected to take this legacy forward by manifolds.
Die-Fi is said to be inspired by true events. It is being produced by Raakesh U Sakat and directed by Atul Kumar Dubey who is known for his thriller work in “Darr Sab Ko Lagta Hai.”
Hansal Mehta, well-known for some of cinema’s recent best projects like “Shahid,” “Aligarh,” and “Omerta,” is the creative producer whose Midas touch will surely make the movie stand out. It is being produced under the banner of Prissha Films.
Die-Fi revolves around the horrific death of a woman (Nisha) who is the daughter of a rich and popular businessman. While nobody knows what actually happened, fingers are raised on the businessman of sneaking in an occult expert in the hospital and performing some black magic.
Nisha’s journalist-friend (Ritika) takes upon herself to find out the real truth. She uncovers some ugly realities about the family’s dynamics and also comes across some baffling turn of events. She goes on to encounter a whole new dimension of death which is above all worldly logics and reasoning as we know.
Apart from the mind boggling as well as appalling plot, other exciting part about Die-Fi is its brilliant set of cast.
The movie will see a massive comeback of actor Anurag Sinha, the critically acclaimed Subhash Ghai-discovery, who made his debut in “Black & White.” Apart from couple of other movies including Nikhil Advani’s “Prisoners Of War: Bandhi Yudhh Ke,” the actor have been more or less absent from the screen and it will be a treat to watch him in action once again.
Another attraction of Die-Fi is web series star Nidhi Bisht. Best known for her work in TVF’s “Tripling,” “Permanent Roommates,” and “Bisht, Please,” she is now a familiar face in in the world of internet entertainment. However, this will be the first time that this chirrupy actress will be seen in a thriller drama and that too playing an intimidating character with mixed shades.
Sinha and Bisht will be accompanied by “A Billion Color Story” actress Rashmi Somvanshi and Vaibhavi Upadhyay of “Adaalat” fame. Also seen will be Anjum Rajabali, who is a writer of critically acclaimed films like “Raajneeti,” “Aarakshan,” and “Satyagrah” and was also seen in “Turning 30” and “Ghajini.”
Die-Fi release date is still to be confirmed. Watch this space as we will keep bringing the latest update.
