Not Only Gulabo Sitabo, These Big Bollywood Movies Will Also Have OTT Release Soon [Where, When]

(Last Updated On: May 25, 2020)

You know what is the latest of the latest new normal? You will not be going for movies anymore but movies will be coming to you.

With the idea of social distancing becoming part of our lifestyle, going out for a movie seems to be a thing of the past and very very distant future. Lock down or no lock down, cinema halls are not opening anytime sooner and your weekend movie plans are definitely not going to pan out in the coming few months. However, there is still a silver lining as many producers are now bypassing the conventional theatrical release and will be going for OTT/internet  releases.

Yes, you read that right! Owing to this unprecedented coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown measures, many movies which were due for release are now facing an uncertain future. What seems to be relief for us movie buffs here is that some of the much-awaited flicks we will be able to catch very soon from the comforts of our home.

Here are some of the major Bollywood movies which are expected to have OTT release very soon:

Where: ZEE5

When: Now Streaming

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Ghoomketu had been languishing unreleased for a few years, and has finally found a new lease of life thanks to ZEE5. Apart from Siqqiqui, the movie boasts of a very interesting cast including Anurag Kashyap, Raghuvir Yadav and Ila Arun.

Ghoomketu is about a star-struck UP man who elopes to Mumbai to try his luck as screenwriter with the experience of writing wedding invitation cards and back-of-the-truck’s slogans under his belt. His missing case is assigned to a not-so-capable Mumbai cop who is clueless how to find this man but somehow does not bother to give a second look at the stranger who has moved in next door.

The movie is a laughter riot in whole. However, poor editing makes it lag at many points while it’s outdatedness also too evident at some.

*Gulabo Sitabo

Where: Prime Video

When: June 12

Directed by the creator of “Piku” and “Vicky Donor” Shoojit Sircar, Gulabo Sitabo was touted as one of the most-awaited movies of 2020. The movie stars Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushman Khurrana in the lead role set in an unusual story.

The Gulabo Sitabo trailer sets up the dire financial straits of Sitabo (Khurrana) and his the acrimonious relationship with his home owner or rather say haveli owner.  Eventually, the annoyed Gulabo (Bachchan) takes the legal route, and is advised to sell the haveli. But things get complicated when the Indian archaeology department turns up and declares it to be a historical site.

*Laxmi Bomb:

Where: Hotstar+Disney

When: Coming Soon

Although there is no official confirmation on this one yet, buzz is that Akshay Kumar’s Laxmi Bomb will also follow this new unconventional path to get a OTT release. The movie was scheduled to hit the big screens on May 22.

‘Laxmi Bomb’ is the remake of the smash hit Tamil flick ‘Kanchana’ and is directed by Raghava Lawrence. In the movie, Akshay will be seen playing a man possessed by the ghost of a transgender.

Where: Netflix

When: Coming Soon

Recently, reports emerged that Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani starrer Shershaah’s makers are negotiating a deal with Netflix for an OTT release and will announce a release date soon.

Shershaah is based on the life of Param Vir Chakra awardee Vikram Batra. The movie was originally slated for theatrical release on June 3.

Many other films which are also most likely to premiere on OTT platforms are Vidya Balan-starrer Shakuntala Devi, Karan Johar’s Gunjan Saxena-The Kargil Girl featuring Jahnvi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund and Chehre, and Anurag Basu-directed Ludo starring Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Sheikh. Netflix might see the release of Indoo Ki Jawani starring Kiara Advani and Chhalaan.

Until then, check out the binge-watch worthy Hindi web series that came in April and May.
